About the Project: Born in Fulham in 1936 David Purser spent his whole life documenting his local scene. He pursued this both on a professional and personal level. hanks to his dedication to documentary photography and Fulham, David's work offers a chronological timeline of the dramatic social and economical changes in Fulham's riverfront and community life over half a century. Images include the demolition of the Manbre sugar refinery, the conversion of cargo wharfs into offices, restaurants and flats. Also street parties, the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 and local strikes and demonstrations.

Post-retirement David’s subject matter shifted to the wildlife that lived along the Thames River in West London.

David Purser passed away in 2019. His vast archive of photographs spanning several decades has been kept by his dedicated friend and neighbour Phil Amos who has actively pursued a legacy for David's work and recognition of his skill and patience.

In December 2021, we collaborated with the London Wetlands Centre in Barnes to exhibit some of David’s exquisite images of London’s wildlife. David focused on wildlife post- retirement from 2001. He is responsible for some of the best images of London’s wildlife to date.
